Windows

In 1971, we stayed in a hotel in Spain with a dining room wedged between tall walls of adjoining buildings, light raking down from above. The result was a series of paintings, some done many years later, based on that distinctive geometry and light. Rows and columns of windows with almost vertical shadows angling down sharply. Architecture, clearly. But the colors and shapes within and among the windows turned the paintings into abstractions, meditations.
