Karl Simmons has patiently and professionally constructed this web-based book. He was the technological wizard who designed the layout and came up with many valuable suggestions, such as the search bars. He steered me through the long and often frustrating process of website construction and publication. We sometimes felt like pioneers, putting together and giving flight to a paperless book. He is a professional, multi-talented cyber expert, and I would recommend him to anyone trying something like this. Lenders to the book are credited in the text, but I especially want to thank Scott Shields, associate director and chief curator of the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, for encouraging me from the outset and letting me use the museum's images of the Reich pieces in the collection. Besides Karl’s work, I was lucky to recruit PhotoSource and Photo Express in the arduous process of scanning pictures and converting data from one platform to another. Sacramento is lucky to have these geniuses at work. The encouragement I have received from Don Reich’s many friends has made this project doable. Charles Johnson, Sacramento, California, 2019 |
